Is this research taking place at a medical lab or in a high school classroom? The precision and professionalism of the students and the lab tests might make this seem like a medical lab, but these are Oconomowoc High School students in Mr. Dan Starr's Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Medical Interventions class. Last week, these PLTW students were acting as scientists investigating a fictitious meningitis outbreak on a college campus. They were testing samples using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to diagnose which fictional students had meningitis and the severity of their illness. Throughout the year, students in PLTW Medical Interventions will use real-world scenarios to explore how to detect and fight infection, screen and evaluate the code in human DNA, evaluate cancer treatment options, and much more.

Fall Photography in Action Gallery: Oconomowoc High School Literature & Film students presented their Fall 2018 Photography in Action Gallery Showcase last week. Students shared their presentations and work in a walking-gallery format for big crowds of fellow students and staff.

Local Professionals Share Business Knowledge: Last week, the Oconomowoc High School Principles of Business students had the opportunity to learn about business professions directly from area business people. Professionals in Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Law talked about their careers, how they work with other professionals within the scope of their jobs, and the education pathways from high school to college, that lead to their professions. Thank you to the professionals from the ORBIS Corporation, the Oconomowoc Area School District, Essential Industries, Inc., Husch Blackwell Law Firm, and ProHealth Care, for supporting this learning opportunity for our students!
