From Roger J. Rindo, Ed.D., Superintendent of the Oconomowoc Area School District:
As you are aware, unsafe weather conditions caused the Oconomowoc Area School District (OASD) to cancel school on January 23, January 28, January 30, January 31, February 7, and February 12, 2019.
State law has different requirements for instructional minutes at the elementary, intermediate and high school levels. Upon review of the instructional minutes and built-in snow days in the OASD school calendar, it has been determined that we need to make up one school day. The loss of instructional time, and the specific impact this lost time has had on the current grading period, were key considerations in our review of possible options available to make up this needed school time.
Please note that we will be changing Monday, February 25, 2019, from a staff professional development day to a student attendance day. We believe this is the most effective way to restore instructional time which OASD has lost, all from the current grading period.
The number one priority during severe weather is to keep OASD staff and students safe. Please remember, as I communicated last week, we still have a few more months of winter here in Wisconsin. If additional snow days are needed as we move through February, March, and April, I will continue to communicate any further calendar changes required to meet state-required instructional time.
I was thrilled to see everyone back in our buildings this morning. If you have any questions, please contact your building principal.
Sincerely,
Roger J. Rindo, Ed.D
