District News

OHS 2019 COMMENCEMENT: The Oconomowoc High School Commencement Ceremony is on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in Rux Stadium. Graduates should arrive to the Gale Douglas Fieldhouse by 8:45 a.m. on June 8. Tickets are not needed for graduation, seating is first-come-first-serve and the Rux Stadium gates open at 6:00 a.m. Seating is also available inside the Oconomowoc Arts Center to watch the ceremony by live stream video. The OAC opens for guests at 9:00 a.m. and seating is also first-come-first-serve. HELP THE OHS ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CLASS SEW MORE REUSABLE GROCERY BAGS: The Oconomowoc High School AP Environmental Science class is holding another reusable grocery bag sewing bee, and they need your help! The group organized donations and a sewing bee in April and it was such a huge success, they're scheduling a second date. No material or supply donations needed – just volunteers to measure, cut, iron, and sew additional bags. The sewing will take place in the OHS East Campus Board Room, 915 E. Summit Avenue, Oconomowoc, from 7:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10.

OASD SUMMER SCHOOL STARTS SOON: The school year has ended, but Summer School is just about to start! Families enrolled in Summer School received several email reminders with important information to review before Summer School Begins. Please note these important start and end dates:

• Intermediate and High School students enrolled in O-Power will start their classes next Monday, June 10.
• Summer School courses at Greenland Elementary and most courses at Nature Hill Intermediate and OHS begin on Monday, June 17.
• Several courses at Nature Hill Intermediate and OHS begin in July or August. Please check your student's schedule online in Family Access, to confirm start and end dates.

SUMMER BOOKMOBILE IS BACK: The Loving Oconomowoc Literacy (LOL) Bookmobile is back in action this summer and is free to all Oconomowoc families in grades 4K-8. Come to a scheduled stop to grab a book to borrow, enjoy a surprise guest reader, and connect with other friends.

Dates: June 26, July 10, July 24, August 1, August 15

Scheduled Stops on Each of These Dates:

• Ixonia Fireman's Park: 9:00 - 9:30 a.m.
• Greenland Elementary Playground: 10:00 - 10:45 a.m.
• Meadow View Elementary (current Brown Street location): 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.
• Imagination Station: 3:00 - 3:45 p.m.
• Summit Elementary: 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

SUMMER AUTISM ESSENTIALS INSTITUTE: The OASD is proud to hold a Summer Autism Essentials Institute on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Oconomowoc Arts Center. This event is presented by Kate McGinnity, Autism Consultant, members of the Oconomowoc Area School District Autism Resource Team, and OASD students with autism. Participants will receive a free autism resource book. OASD staff can attend the event for free, OASD parents can attend for $25, and community members can attend for $100. Facility Updates

SAYING FAREWELL TO MEADOW VIEW ELEMENTARY: The Oconomowoc community came together on Saturday, June 1, to say farewell to Meadow View Elementary School. Meadow View alumni joined with retired Meadow View, Okauchee, and Ashippun Elementary School teachers to share memories of their time at the school. Guests toured the building, spent time looking through a historical memorabilia display, and got to see some of the furniture and finishes being used inside the new Meadow View Elementary. Over the next two months, finishing touches on the new Meadow View Elementary will be completed, ready to welcome students for the 2019-20 school year.

SAVE THE DATE - MEADOW VIEW ELEMENTARY DEDICATION CELEBRATION:OASD Families and the Oconomowoc community are invited to celebration the opening of the new Meadow View Elementary School at a dedication celebration on Sunday, September 29, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Meadow View Elementary, 1500 Whalen Drive, Oconomowoc. There will be a formal dedication ceremony followed by tours of the building.

OHS Athletics

BOYS BASEBALL: The Varsity team faced Sussex Hamilton High School in the State Sectional on Tuesday but finished the game with a 6-1 loss.

GIRLS SOCCER: The Varsity team faced Sun Prairie High School in the Regional Championship last weekend and played hard, but ended with a 2-1 loss.

BOYS TENNIS: Congratulations to OHS Seniors, Nick S., and Nolan R., who competed in their second consecutive WIAA Division 1 State Boys Individual Tennis Tournament last week.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD: Congratulations to Max M., the Division 1 Boys Pole Vault State Champion. Max cleared 15 feet, 3 inches at the WIAA State Track and Field Championship in La Crosse last weekend. Congratulations to all of our state competitors – Alex V., Michael K., Ethan B., Zach Z., and Max M., who finished in 5^th place out of the 24 teams that participated.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD: Congratulations to OHS Junior, Kylie F., who finished in 8^th place in the 800-meter run in the WIAA State Championship last weekend.

JOIN US AT THE OCONOMOWOC SPORTS BOOSTER CLUB GOLF OUTING ON JUNE 14^TH: The 31^st Annual OSBC Jack Bub Memorial Golf Outing is June 14, 2019 at Paganica Golf Course. Registration will be from 10:30-11:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. If you're not a golfer, please join us at 5:00 pm. for the dinner and awards presentation.
