On October 12, 2021, the sophomore class of Oconomowoc High School participated in a job shadowing experience as well as a college visit related to a career cluster of their interest. This day was designed to give students a hands-on learning experience to help further define their career and college readiness goals.
We support each individual student's preparation to be career-ready and empower them to pursue postsecondary training through military service, the workforce, an apprenticeship, or through a 2 or 4-year college degree. Students took time out of the traditional school day for a readiness experience that promotes our school's mission and values, while helping each Raccoon develop a sense of identity and purpose.
Transportation - Aviation Focus
Students explored a career in transportation - specifically aviation. They learned more about a variety of jobs related to this field and even how to start exploring now.
Arts/AV/Communications - Marketing Focus
Students spent the day exploring the variety of career opportunities in communications, learning about the different pathways to reach their goal, and toured the Communications Department at Marquette University.
Law, Public Safety, Corrections
Students learned more about public safety careers in areas such as Police, Fire, and EMT with opportunities to talk to professionals in different pathways.
Business/Finance
Students went to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee to learn about opportunities in business. Then they explored a local business to learn more about the job opportunities there.
Student groups also learned about careers in agriculture, visited a Carpenters Hall to learn more about architecture and construction, toured a YMCA child care center and went to UW-Whitewater to see what it takes to become a teacher. Other students learned what they could do with a mental health focus and also how to take a love of sports and apply it at a job. Our sophomores loved these unique opportunities and made the most of their day by asking pertinent questions and reflecting on each career path.
