School Board Update

Summit Elementary Showcase
At this month’s OASD School Board meeting the Summit Elementary 4th grade teaching team, Principal Stuckey, students and parents shared with the School Board how the implementation of SeeSaw this school year has helped empower and engage students and families. This easy to use online program allows students to independently document their learning, gives families an immediate and personalized look into their child’s school day and provides staff with time saving ways to organize, communicate with parents and allow a safe way to teach 21st Century technology skills. Click here for a photo of the Summit presenters.  Click here for a print out of their presentation.

Approval of 2017-18 Open Enrollment Seat Numbers
The school board approved a recommendation to accept all currently placed Open Enrollment and Tuition Waiver students already attending OASD, and to make additional seats available without specific school site assignments adjusted for staffing projections.  The Board recognizes that availability of program supports and services may be an additional factor in decisions. Therefore, the Board did not approve any seats that require services through special education at this time.  However, the Board approved allowing seats to any student that is currently enrolled in OASD and included in the enrollment projections for the 17/18 school year if they move and apply to stay through Open Enrollment.

Approval of 2017-18 OHS and Intermediate Program Planning Guides
The School Board approved the 2017-18 OHS Program Planning Guide, and the 2017-18 Intermediate School Program Planning Guide for Grades 5-8.  Both planning guides will be available to parents and students in the near future.

Construction Update
The Board received a status update on the planning for Greenland and Park Lawn HVAC improvements as well as planning for the renovation and addition at Ixonia.  The attached document summarizes a typical post-referendum architectural design process and timeline.
