DISTRICT JAZZ NIGHT: Don’t miss the district Jazz Night next Tuesday, May 8, 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Gym at Oconomowoc High School. The Silver Lake Intermediate Jazz Ensemble, OHS Jazz 1, OHS Jazz 2, and OHS Jazz Combo will perform. Tickets are sold at the door and food will also be available for purchase.
GRILLING 2 GIVE 2018: The 17th Annual Grilling 2 Give is May 24, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Oconomowoc High School. Grilling 2 Give is a long-standing OHS tradition, hosted by the DECA club and open to the community. Proceeds from the event will benefit Gals Institute, the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southern Wisconsin, and Blessings in a Backpack Waukesha County. To honor the memory of OHS alumni and DECA club member, Elliot Spear, Grilling 2 Give t-shirts will feature a design that Elliot drew of his wheelchair, along with his name. T-shirts are for sale on the district webstore. All shirt proceeds will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
1ST ANNUAL RELAY FOR LIFE AT OHS: The “Students 4 Service” club at Oconomowoc High School (OHS) is hosting the 1st Annual Relay for Life on Friday, May 11, from 6:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. This event will help raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event will be held at the OHS outdoor track and will include a “survivor” lap. OHS students are invited to form teams, and any staff or community members interested in participating in the “survivor” lap can sign up online. In addition to the Relay for Life, students are selling OHS Athletic “O” Pop Sockets. If interested, Pop Sockets are selling for $10 each on the district's online store. Purchases will be delivered to your designated school.
ATHLETIC SUMMER CAMP OPPORTUNITIES: The Oconomowoc High School Athletic Department is offering summer athletic camps for students entering grades 1 - 12. The athletic camp brochure has complete information on the grade levels for each sport, camp dates, cost, and registration information.
Camp registration is open now through the Web Store. In most cases, registration is requested by June 1, 2018, to ensure your child's spot and a camp t-shirt. Please refer to the camp brochure for specific registration information and deadlines by sport.

School Board Update
MEADOW VIEW ELEMENTARY SHOWCASE: Meadow View Elementary staff and students presented, “Bridges in Mathematics: UDL Framework Components of the Bridges Mathematics Curriculum,” at the OASD School Board meeting on May 1. Staff shared how three basic pillars of Universal Design for Learning, allow them to present math concepts in a variety of ways, using a variety of tools and approaches, so that all students are able to learn. As a result, students can express their answers and solutions in multiple ways. Students then demonstrated a variety of approaches to solving math problems for the School Board members.
BOARD ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING: The OASD School Board held their organizational meeting to elect Board officers and designate Board resources for the coming year. Officers are:

- Sandy Schick, School Board Vice President
- Kim Herro, School Board Clerk
- Dan Raasch, School Board Treasurer

Congratulations to the 78 seventh and eighth grade students at Nature Hill Intermediate, who were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) on May 3. The ceremony was organized by the current eight grade NJHS members and included a speech by Jack T., the current OHS National Honor Society President.

Five Oconomowoc High School students received the Excellence in Chinese Learning Award from the Wisconsin Association of Chinese Language Teachers. The students were nominated by OHS teacher, Mrs. Jinny Lourigan, in recognition of their outstanding participation, commitment, and dedication to Chinese language learning. Congratulations to Lily L., Anthony L., Dana S., Samuel G., Gabriella E., and teacher, Mrs. Lourigan on this incredible accomplishment.
It's time for the FFA Spring Greenhouse Sale. A wide variety of annuals, perennials, vegetables, patio pots, and hanging baskets will be available. Saturday, May 5, 12, and 19 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.,
Friday, May 11 and 18 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. All proceeds benefit the OHS horticulture classes. The greenhouse is located behind Oconomowoc High School.
Athletics
BOYS BASEBALL: The team worked hard this week but fell to Arrowhead in their games on April 30, and May 1.
BOYS GOLF: The team finished 5th in their Classic 8 mini-meet at Oconomowoc Golf Club on April 30, and finished 19th at the Waukesha South PGA Junior Invite at Bristlecone Pines on May 1.
BOYS TENNIS: The team brought home a 7-0 win against Waukesha North on May 1, but ended their May 3, match against Arrowhead with a 6-1 loss.
TRACK & FIELD: The team competed in the Heimark Northstar Classic at Waukesha North on April 28. The girls finished 13th and boys finished 11th.
GIRLS SOCCER: The varsity team celebrated their first Classic 8 win against Waukesha South on May 1, with a 4-0 win.
GIRLS SOFTBALL: The varsity team had a busy week with two wins and two losses. The team beat Muskego, 6-2, on April 30, but lost to Arrowhead, 14-7, on May 1. They clenched the week’s second win against Kettle Moraine on May 2, ending the game 11-9, but lost to Divine Savior Holy Angels, 9-4 on May 3.
