Athletic Summer Camp Opportunities: The Oconomowoc High School Athletic Department is offering summer athletic camps for students entering grades 1 - 12. The athletic camp brochure has complete information on the grade levels for each sport, camp dates, cost, and registration information.
Camp registration is open now through the Web Store. In most cases, registration is requested by June 1, 2018, to ensure your child's spot and a camp t-shirt. Please refer to the camp brochure for specific registration information and deadlines by sport.
YOUTH FOOTBALL PROGRAM: There has been some confusion about the Youth Football offerings available to OASD students and the makeup of the organizations running those programs. The only program endorsed by the OASD is our new, fully integrated, program for children in grades 1-12. This program is a partnership between the YMCA at Past Farms, the Oconomowoc Parks & Rec Department, and the OHS Athletics Program. More information on our program and opportunities to get involved is available on the OASD website.
BOARD UPDATES
SILVER LAKE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL SHOWCASE: Sixth-grade students and staff from Silver Lake Intermediate School presented, Fundamentals of Grammar & Conventions, at the March 20, School Board Meeting. The Fundamentals of Grammar and Conventions is a new supplemental program, introduced this year for grades K-8 in the Oconomowoc Area School District (OASD). The Fundamentals of Grammar and Conventions provides authentic opportunities for students to deepen understanding of how language and grammar impact written and oral communication.
The units in The Fundamentals of Grammar and Conventions are based on the premise that teaching and modeling grammar and conventions in context will help our students become better at effectively using language to convey and understand the message. Structures such as mini-lessons, interactive read-aloud, and the use of mentor and shared texts, mirror structures already utilized in the Reader's and Writer's Workshop curriculum.
FACILITY UPDATES
IXONIA ELEMENTARY: Exterior brick and stone work at Ixonia Elementary is 95% complete. The trash and pump enclosure is the final exterior area being constructed and that work is underway now. 98% of the interior wall framing is complete drywall installation is underway. The main entrance glass enclosure is nearly complete and the glass that will enclose the cafeteria is being installed. The addition will be weather tight by the end of the month. You can view photos of the construction progress at Ixonia Elementary here: https://app.oxblue.com/open/nicholasassoc/Ixonia.
MEADOW VIEW ELEMENTARY: Bids for the Meadow View project were opened on March 27. Nicholas/Oliver, the District’s construction managers, are currently completing the scope reviews with the bidders and will be presenting a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposal to the School Board for consideration in April.
OHS EAST CAMPUS: Most of the interior demolition work at East Campus is complete and underground plumbing work began last month. This required cutting the existing lower-level concrete to run new plumbing lines for sanitary and storm drains. The lower-level plumbing work is 80% complete, plumbing lines are installed, and openings have been back-filled. Once concrete is poured, interior wall installation in the lower-level can begin. Exterior demolition of select windows and doors will begin this month.
Construction updates are available on the OASD site under the Building our Future Project Updates section.
