Superintendent Update for the Week Ending January 10, 2020

District News

IMPORTANT OASD WEATHER INFORMATION AND CANCELLATIONS: Due to the dangerous road conditions expected this evening and significant snowstorm predicted for tomorrow, Oconomowoc Area School District (OASD) is making several schedule changes and cancellations. Please exercise great caution if you are electing to attend any of the remaining scheduled activities in the area. If you have questions about an activity, please contact your athletic coach, club advisor, or organization directly. Any additional updates will be posted at www.oasd.org/Emergency.

Today, Friday, January 10:

• The OHS Girls Freshman and JV Basketball Games at OHS will now begin at 4:30 p.m.
• The OHS Girls Varsity Basketball Game at OHS will now begin at 6:00 p.m.
• All of the OHS Boys Basketball Games at Arrowhead High School will continue as originally scheduled.
• Events and practices at the Intermediate Schools will continue as scheduled unless you hear from the club advisor or coaches.
• Ixonia Elementary School PTO sponsored Movie Night will continue as scheduled.

Saturday, January 11:

• Due to the significant snowstorm predicted for Saturday, the OASD is canceling all athletic activities for our student athletes, all club activities occurring at our schools, and closing our buildings.
• Cancellations include activities scheduled at our schools by the Oconomowoc Rec Department and Oconomowoc Youth Basketball.
• OHS DECA Competition at Kettle Moraine is continuing as planned.
• At this time, the Oconomowoc Arts Center will still host "John Mueller's Winter Dance Party" at 7:00 p.m.
• All OASD buildings will be closed and all outside scheduled events canceled.

Sunday, January 12:

• Activities scheduled in OASD buildings will continue as planned.

8^th GRADE FAMILIES – JOIN US AT OHS RACCOON READY FRESHMAN INFORMATION NIGHT:Please join us at Raccoon Ready Freshman Information Night on Monday, January 13, 2020, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the OHS Gale Douglas Fieldhouse. Click here for more information about the event.

4th GRADE FAMILIES – YOU'RE INVITED TO OUR 5^TH GRADE INFORMATION NIGHTS:4th-Grade parents and guardians are invited to the Incoming 5th-Grade Information Nights at Silver Lake and Nature Hill Intermediate Schools. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the transition to Intermediate School, the daily schedule, and much more.

• Monday, January 20, 2020, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Silver Lake Cafeteria
• Wednesday, January 22, 2020, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Nature Hill Cafeteria.

4K/5K REGISTRATION COMING JANUARY 13-24: 4K/5K registration is for all children starting 4K and for 5K families that are new to the OASD. If your child currently attends an OASD school for 4K, you do not need to register for 5K this month. You'll use the online registration process during the summer for the 2020-21 school year. Families should register their children at the OASD Elementary School they will attend. Families can register their children between 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, from January 13-24, 2020, or during the special evening hours on Thursday, January 16, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Please note: January 20, 2020, is a PD Day in the OASD and school offices will be closed. COME TO THE 15TH ANNUAL JAZZ DANCE ON JANUARY 31ST: Help support our OASD Band Program and enjoy a night of great music at the 15^th Annual Jazz Dance. The bands from OHS, Silver Lake Intermediate, and Nature Hill Intermediate will perform and there will be dancing, silent auction, raffles, and Saz's food available for purchase. Tickets for sale in advance at Piggly Wiggly and Books & Company in Oconomowoc, or available online by clicking on this link. Sponsored by the OHS Band Aids.

GEORGIE KRENZ "BORN TO TEACH" MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Summit Elementary School has established the Georgie Krenz "Born to Teach" Memorial Scholarship. Anyone who knew Georgie knew that she was "Born to Teach," and she truly loved the teaching profession. She touched many lives in her 28 years at Summit Elementary School. The money raised through this scholarship fund will be awarded to a graduate of Oconomowoc High School pursuing a career in the education field. OHS Athletics

WATCH OHS BOYS & GIRLS HOME BASKETBALL GAMES LIVE ON YOUTUBE: You can watch all of the home OHS Basketball games livestreamed on YouTube by following this link.

BOYS BASKETBALL: The Varsity team faced Muskego at home on January 3 but ended the game with a close 51-47 loss.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Varsity team faced Sun Prairie in a non-conference match up on Tuesday and clenched their 8^th straight win with a 61-39 victory at home. The team also clenched a 53-40 win over Muskego at home on January 3.

GYMNASTICS: The Varsity and JV Gymnastics teams competed in a tri-meet at Arrowhead last night against FMOW and Arrowhead. Varsity scored their highest team score of the season at 128.675. Some of the gymnasts on both JV and Varsity were competing new skills for the first time and the energy the team brought was amazing.

HOCKEY: The KMMO Varsity team faced Greendale on January 3 and scored a big 10-2 win.

SKI: The OHS Ski Team started their season on January 2 at Alpine Valley. The boys Varsity team finished 2^nd and the girls Varsity team finished 3^rd

OHS BOYS BASEBALL CAMP FOR GRADES 1-8: Sign up today for the 2020 Raccoon Baseball Camp, January 18, 25, and February 1, 2020. The camp is led by OHS Varsity Baseball Coach, Arno Kirchenwitz, along with the OHS Baseball Coaching Staff, current OHS players, and alumni.
